Beginning of the End: The Path to Mosul

In 2017, a class of Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service (CTS) commandos stood together for a graduation that marked not just the end of grueling training but the beginning of a fight few could imagine. For these soldiers, graduating wasn’t just a personal triumph; it was the threshold into the devastating battle against ISIS to reclaim Mosul—a fight where survival wasn’t guaranteed. During the operation to liberate Mosul, CTS units endured staggering casualties of nearly 50 percent. Many soldiers faced not only the prospect of death but, for those who survived, the irreversible impact of trauma and loss. Their lives would never be the same.

 

My Excuse to Succeed

My first experience with someone from Española was when I worked as a busboy at an Italian restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I worked with a dishwasher from Española named Gerome and we spent a lot of time together dumping huge garbage cans filled with overpriced and mediocre Italian food into dumpsters behind the restaurant while he told me stories about how he grew up.

 

This American Carnage

Through his lens, Diego provides a unique and unfiltered look at the violence that unfolded on the streets of the nation's capital in the aftermath of the presidential election. The book takes readers on a visual journey through the protests, where supporters of the left and the right clashed, culminating in an event that shook the foundations of American democracy.

 

Unseen America

When most people around the world think of the United States, iconic images of New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., come to mind. Movies and television have filled the imagination of most foreigners with the Empire State building and the Hollywood sign, but there is much more to this vast and diverse country. Though it is amongst the most beautiful and interesting parts of the country, the American southwest is underrepresented in the minds of many outside and even inside the U.S.
